Celebrate Dolly Parton's life and legacy at these Twin Cities tribute events

Dolly Parton fans can celebrate the late icon's life at one of several upcoming tribute events.

What's happening: First Avenue will host its sixth annual Tribute to Dolly Parton concert at its namesake venue on Jan. 8.

  • For those who don't want to wait, Flip Phone is hosting two Dolly drag brunch shows at Crave Minneapolis on Oct. 4.
  • Between the lines: While both events are long-running, organizers told the Star Tribune that the country star's Aug. 25 death will make them even more meaningful.

What they're saying: "Once she passed, it felt clear that this year's show needed to be treated as more of a celebration of her life and career," guitarist Seth Duin of the group A Little Too Short to Be Stormtroopers told the paper.

  • "This feels like the moment to bring this show to a larger venue and we're excited for more people to experience her music and legacy."
  • If you go: Tickets for the First Avenue concert are on sale now for $24. Attendees are asked to bring a book to donate to a local nonprofit in honor of one of Parton's work to encourage reading among kids.

  • Entry to the drag brunch shows is $21.
