A new analysis questions Iowans devotion to eating corn

There's nothing like gnawing on a buttery corn cob in the summer, but a new Instacart analysis is questioning Iowans' passion for the grain, noting we're 37% less likely than the rest of the country to order corn through the app.

What they're saying: "Turns out corn on Instacart is a New England thing, not a Midwest thing."

  • "Vermont, Maine, and Connecticut are among the states leading the country, while Iowa, the heart of the American Corn Belt, comes in at -37% below the national average. Make it make sense."
  • Our thought bubble: No shade to Instacart, but Iowans know the best corn is chosen yourself at Hy-Vee or Fareway — or better yet, from a pickup truck in a parking lot.

  • The time period to purchase local sweet corn is also a narrow window from mid/late July through September, depending on the weather. With our rainy spring, we could be waiting a little bit.
  • The bottom line: Consider buying local sweet corn when it's deliciously in season and freezing it so you can enjoy it all year long in the way God intended.
